Compare the 2 Sunflower Stories

4A,

We have completed Ruby's Sunflower. I had introduced another story....The Crow & the Sunflower.

In your opinion, how are the stories similar or different?

What about the characters?
Ruby, Saul in Ruby's Sunflower & Crawford & Cynthia the Crows.

Did all the characters do the right thing?
What moral values have you learnt from the 2 stories....

Post your thoughts over the weekend....

  1. The similar of the story is that Crawford and Ruby did the right things. They felt gulity. They also had sunflowers in thier garden. They took care of thier sunflowers. The difference of the story is Ruby entered a contest while Crawford has many sunflowers his garden but he did not entered a contest.Crawford's sunflowers are for snacks while Ruby's sun flower are for beauty. The good values I've learn in this two stories are diligence, intergrity, compassion and co-operation.

  2. The similarity between the 2 story is that the first part of the story, both Ruby and Crowford took really good care of their sunflowers. In the middle of the story, they both felt guilty of what they have done. Ruby actually cheated. Crowford actually had been a little mean. In the end of the story, they both own up their mistake. The difference between the 2 stories is that Ruby is going to enter a competition but Crowford did not. Ruby sunflower is to be to tallest for the competition she is entering while Crowford sunflower is to keep it for snacks. The good values I have learned is co-operation, diligence, integrity, compassion and perseverance.

  3. The first similarity is that both Ruby and Crawford took really good care of their sunflowers in their gardens. The second similarity is that both were selfish at first as they only thought about themselves. The third similarity is that both of them realised their mistakes later on and showed integrity in the end. The first difference is that there was no contest in the Sunflower Seeds and Crow story while Ruby was entering a contest. The second difference is that Ruby cheated to win while Crawford was selfish to Cynthia. I think all the characters did the right thing in the end as they showed compassion, kindness and were able to face up to their mistakes.

  6. The stories are similar because they grow sunflowers. All the characters did the right thing because in " Ruby's Sunflower" and "Sunflower Seeds and Crows ", Ruby told Mr Buckley the truth and Crawford apologise Cynthia too. The moral values I have learnt from these two stories are Diligence, Perseverance and Integrity.

  7. The stories are similar because both Crawford and Ruby took care of their sunflowers. The difference is crawfrod did not enter a contest but he kept sunflower's seeds for snack. crawford should not be mean and selfish and we must learn to share things with others. Ruby is proud but honesty.I learned from these two stories are diligence, integrity, compassion and perseverance.

  10. The slimilarity of the two stories were about sunflowers. However, their differences were Ruby's sunflower was for beauty competition purpose while Crawford wanted the sunflowers' seeds for meals and snacks. Ruby told Mr Buckley the truth that she was cheating and Crawford was not nasty and selfish anymore but generous to Cynthia in the ending. The moral of the stories were different too. The values that I have learned is compassion, integrity, diligence and friendship.

  11. The similarity of the two stories is that they are both about sunflowers and both characters Ruby and Crawford took care of their sunflower/s, while the difference is that Ruby's purpose for growing a sunflower is for winning the tallest sunflower contest while Crawford's is for him to eat the sunflower's seeds.

At the beginning, Ruby was a little bit greedy because she wanted to win the contest so badly but in the end, she was feeling guilty for cheating so she owned up for her mistake and made it up to Saul by telling him he was the winner.

Saul, however, was a hardworking and determined boy. He did not cheat in the contest and was very happy when Ruby told him he won.

Crawford was also a bit greedy and mean to Cynthia. But when he realized that, he made up his mind and went to look for her and invited her to stay in his garden of sunflowers.

Cynthia was hurt when she was shooed away by Crawford. But she was overjoyed when Crawford let her stay in his garden.

I think Ruby and Crawford did the right thing, because Ruby tell the truth and Crawford apologise to Cynthia in the end.

The moral values I've learned from the two stories are: Integrity, Diligence, Perseverance and Compassion.
